Crime Commission Seeking Applicants for Policy Analyst Position

The Virginia State Crime Commission is seeking a qualified individual to fill a policy analyst position. The position requires strong research, writing, analytical and communication skills. Applicants must have the ability to research and analyze public policy issues relating to criminal justice and public safety. Applicants must have the capability to prepare and present information to members of the Commission and Virginia legislature, draft research reports, as well as answer questions quickly, clearly and concisely in front of the Commission and Committees of the General Assembly. Candidates for this position must be able to demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, time management skills, and the ability to work within strict time deadlines. Attention to detail, accuracy in completing work, and ability to use critical thinking skills required. Major responsibilities include developing and carrying out work plans, performing literature reviews, assisting with data collection and analysis, identifying important issues and recommendations for studies, analysis of legislation, and meeting preparation/administrative tasks. Some overnight travel and field work may be required. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully perform all duties in an objective, unbiased, and non-partisan manner while working in a team environment.

Minimum qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in related field
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred qualifications:
A master’s degree in public policy, criminal justice or related discipline
Experience in policy analysis and development
Proficiency in the preparation of reports and presentations
General knowledge of the criminal justice system and Virginia’s legislative process
